I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream

"I had always thought that once you grew up, you could do anything you wanted - stay up all night or eat ice cream straight out of the container." - Bill Bryson

Well, guess what, peeps??? When you're grown up, you CAN stay up all night and eat ice cream straight out of the container! And we do! Daily.

Welcome to The Ice Cream Chronicles. A magical place where we don't have to be ashamed of our obsession with sweet, cold, creamy goodness. We fly this freak flag high! It all started today (meaning this blog, not our ice cream obsession - that's been evident for awhile now), when Malia and I ran to the store for "water" and "butter" and came home with two cartons of ice cream. We almost came home with three, but Malia exercised restraint. Don't mention that I'd already purchased ice cream earlier in the day and that we purchased ice cream on Saturday too. Wow. Writing it down like that just reaffirmed how insane we are. I mean...no shame. No. Shame.

So, we get home and we're loading our treasures into the freezer (which already contains three, count 'em, three half-eaten cartons), commenting on the absurdity of how much ice cream we've consumed in the last 8 months of living together. The majority of the time, there are more containers of ice cream in the freezer than people that live in the apartment. For reals. Anyway, Malia says, "What if we had saved all the cartons of ice cream we've eaten?" My first thought is, "Gross, we'd be like one of those crazy Hoarders ladies." My second thought is, "That would be a lot of freaking ice cream containers," and my third thought is, "That would be AWESOME." But more than awesome, it would be gross. So, I said, "We should start taking pictures every time we finish a carton of ice cream and start a blog and just post them on the blog." And here we are.

The current state of our freezer:

Vanilla, vanilla, coffee fudge brownie, orange dreamscicles, dairy-free mocha almond fudge, dairy-free chocolate peanut butter. Oh, and the not-as-shameful frozen strawberries. (Full disclosure: they're for milkshakes.)

We love all varieties of ice cream: frozen yogurt, dairy-free, fatty, low-fat, sinful, vanilla-y, minty, chocolate-y, chunky, melty. So here's the sitch: henceforth every time we finish a carton of ice cream, we are going to take a picture of it before we throw it out. Then we will document our ice cream adventures here. I suspect we'll be some of the only people that will read this thing; it's pretty ridiculous. But I love blogging and I love hilarious food blogs, so it was only a matter of time before I started writing one.

Now excuse me while I go eat some mocha almond fudge...straight out of the container.
